Some basic information about the ANGEL course management system.
What is ANGEL?
ANGEL is an enterprise course management system that combines an open and flexible architecture with a complete set of easy-to-use features. ANGEL stands for ANew Global Environment for Learning
In the spring of 2006, the community and technical college system started a course management system (CMS) review project. A large system group worked hard at researching and defining technical requirements for a course management system, surveying faculty and IT staff, and managing a three-phase request for proposal process. The selection of ANGEL was the culmination of this extensive review and selection process.
The ANGEL course management system is now available for use by all instructors for all classes at Peninsula College. If you have questions about this please contact angelsupport@pencol.edu. What about my online classes in WebCT or Blackboard?
How and when will they move into ANGEL and how much work will it involve on my part?
Both Blackboard and WebCT courses can be Zipped as IMS files which can then be imported into ANGEL. Instructors will not have to export/import their Blackboard or WebCT courses on their own. This will happen by either WAOL's planned migration or by our own in-house migration of WebCT courses during March 2009. This migration process will occur during March 2009 so that courses will be ready in ANGEL starting in summer 2009.
Instructors will be required to check each of their classes after the migration. This will serve as a great opportunity to touch up your course content, re-organize and take full advantage of the ANGEL toolset.
ANGEL has an integrated content repository that allows instructors to post material once and control how and by whom it can be accessed. For instance, an instructor teaching three sections of a course will only need to make a correction once in order for the correction to appear in all three sections.
Further, instructors can make their content available to other instructors in their department, in their college, in the state system; or to the world.
Currently, the cost will be the same as it was with Blackboard, $8/credit. WAOL is working on eliminating this fee and expects to do so by July 1st 2009.
